Why?

I couldn't answer the question any better than these words from old Alfred himself.

" Plan your own marathon and do something never done before, something you will enjoy, a route that will take you to the places often read about but never yet seen, you will be on your own, unhampered by human beings en bloc, relying on your own resources to complete what you set out to do. Preferably go alone and do it off your own bat, for it is the solitary walker, always, who most closely identifies himself with his surroundings, who observes as he goes along, who really feels the satisfaction of achievement "

In addition to those apt words, things that make me who I am,  like what I like and do what I do are listed below.

I have:
  • Over 25 years of outdoor experience
  • A passion for adventure
  • A love of wild places, nature and the coast of the British Isles
  • A keen interest in photography and videography
  • The aspirations of an amateur inventor
  • An enthusiasm for alternative technology
  • An understanding of electronics
  • An interest in computers, web design and technology
  • A scary amount of stubbornness, patience, determination and inquisitiveness
  • A curiosity for ancient history and past ways
  • An interest in bushcraft and survival
  • An addiction to the freedom of backpacking
  • An unhealthy obsesion with outdoor gear
  • No fear of the dark, woods, danger or getting lost
  • A sense of humour - of some description

There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.

Lord Byron
